The Playful Pelican is located just twenty minutes from Gulf Shores, and less than five minutes from the Mobile Bay Car Ferry, which offers year round service across the bay to Dauphin Island and Mobile, Alabama. You may want to add a visit to Fort Morgan Historic State Park. It is adjacent to the ferry launch, and is approximately a mile from the Playful Pelican.

In addition, Tacky Jacks restaurant is located just a short distance away with dining, cocktails and Thursday night karaoke. There is also the Sassy Bass Restaurant about five miles away with great 'catch of the week' dining.

The Gulf Shores Yacht Club and Marina is less than a mile away. You can rent boats or charter fishing trips. Speckled trout, white trout, redfish, flounder, sheepshead, tripletail, bluefish, red snapper, pompano and king mackerel are common in the Gulf Shores area.

It’s time to get away from it all! The Playful Pelican is located in one of the quieter areas of the Alabama Gulf Coast, and one of the few areas where dogs are welcome. This two bedroom, two bath home is a mere two minute stroll to the sugar white beaches of Fort Morgan with no roads to cross, no traffic to negotiate – the sand and surf await you!

The Playful Pelican features a spacious kitchen with new appliances and granite countertops, a comfortable living room with a flat screen SMART HDTV and lots of satellite channels; the Master bedroom has a king sized bed, its own flat screen HDTV, bath and sitting area. Also, there is wireless Internet and the washer and dryer are located in the house, not underneath.

The large covered porch has views of both the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay - the perfect place to unwind after a day at the beach. In addition there is an outdoor shower, picnic table and paved parking under the house.

And you don’t have to leave your house broken and well-behaved dog at home. Bring your dog with you on your vacation! We even have two sizes of canvas dog crates for your convenience.

We use one of Gulf Shores’ top rated concierge services so you will arrive to a clean house with linens, bath towels, toilet paper, and other amenities.

This Short-Term Rental Agreement constitutes a contract made between Guest (Guest’s you, your) and Michael and Brenda Courtney (Homeowner, Homeowners).
By signing the Acknowledgment on page seven (7) of this Short-Term Rental Agreement, you are agreeing to the Terms and Conditions, Arrival and Departure Procedures, Pet Addendum (if applicable), and the Rental and Payment Terms, which are defined throughout pages one through six (1-6). Your tenancy is temporary for the stated rental term only. At no time is the property to be sublet or assigned to another individual.

*** SMOKING AND THE USE OF ANY TOBACCO PRODUCTS IS PROHIBITED AT THIS LOCATION ***
This property is completely furnished. The living room includes a couch, loveseat, chair, 4 tables, and lamps, 50” SMART HDTV, DVD player and DVD’s. The Master bedroom includes 1 king bed, 2 bedside tables, chest of drawers, wicker chair, loveseat and table, and a 40” HDTV. The second bedroom includes 1 queen bed, a full over full bunk bed, bedside table, a tall chest of drawers, and a 50” SMART HDTV. The kitchen includes 4 kitchen bar stools, dining table with 4 chairs, computer desk, refrigerator, stove, microwave, dishwasher, coffee makers, toaster oven, crock pot, griddle, utensils, dishes, along with many other kitchen items. Also, included throughout the home are many items such as towels, sheets, books, wall décor, 2 canvas dog crates, etc.

There is also a Weber charcoal grill and a picnic table, as well as many items in the shed such as beach chairs, lawn chairs, carts, wagon, umbrellas, boogie boards, paddles, scuba fins and snorkel, pails, shovels, toys, and some fishing nets and other gear.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Confirmation of Reservation: Your reservation will be confirmed upon confirmation of your deposit, and the receipt of the completed and signed Acknowledgment on page 7. Guests have 48 hours to complete, sign, and return the Acknowledgment in order for your reservation to be held. All Guests staying at the property during the rental term must be listed on the Acknowledgment. Signee must be at least 25 years old, and will be the responsible person for the reservation and all rental obligations. Copy of driver’s license may be requested by Homeowner.
Payment: A deposit equal to 25% of the sub-total is required at the time the reservation is made as per the Rental and Payment Terms on page 6. The remaining amount is due 60 days before your arrival date for a rental term of 1-2 weeks, and 90 days before your arrival date for a rental term of more than 2 weeks. Reservations made less than 60 days prior to the arrival date requires full payment at the time the reservation is made.
Arrival/Departure: The rental term begins at 4:00 pm Central Time (CT) on your scheduled arrival date, and ends at 10:00 am Central Time (CT) on your scheduled departure date. Guest must ensure that the Arrival and Departure Procedures are followed, and that the home is left in excellent condition.
Minimum Rental Term: This property requires a minimum rental term unless prior approval is given by the Homeowners.
Maximum Occupancy: The maximum number of the rental party is limited to eight (8) persons unless prior approval is given by the Homeowners. Persons other than the Guest’s party indicated on the Acknowledgment may not stay in or on the property unless prior approval has been authorized by Homeowners.
Cancellation for Rental Term of 1 to 2 weeks: If Guest requests to cancel the reservation, the amount Guest previously paid will be refunded 100% if notice of cancellation is at least sixty (60) days prior to the scheduled arrival date.
Cancellation for Rental Term of more than 2 weeks: If Guest requests to cancel the reservation, the amount Guest previously paid will be refunded 100% if notice of cancellation is at least ninety (90) days prior to the scheduled arrival date.
Damage Protection: You will be charged a Damage Protection amount after your departure if there is damage to the property. Damages include any harm to the furniture or bedding, the use of any tobacco products, e-cigarettes, cannabis, vaping, excessive dirt/sand or any untidiness requiring additional or excessive cleaning, broken items, pet damage including pet’s waste not picked up on the property, or any other cost for damages incurred to Homeowners during your rental term. If you were charged a Damage Protection amount at the time of booking and no damages occurred, you will be refunded your amount within 14 days of your departure.
Responsibility: Guest’s party agree to keep the property and all furnishings in good order and use appliances for their intended use only. All indoor furniture, outdoor seating, and other items should be left in good condition and in the same location as they were at the beginning of the rental term. Guest(s) will refrain from having food and drinks in the bedrooms, and leave quilts, shams, and comforters clean and in good condition. If any of the item(s) in the shed were broken during your stay, it is your responsibility to replace the item(s).
Smoking/Tobacco/Cannabis/E-Cigarettes/Vaping: There is absolutely NO smoking, NOR the use of any tobacco products, cannabis, e-cigarettes, or vaping, while in or on the property. There will be additional charge of $300 if there is any evidence of smoking, tobacco products, cannabis, e-cigarettes, or vaping.
Grilling and Open Flame: Guest’s party agrees NOT to use charcoal grills, gas grills, or griddles directly underneath the home or on the deck. No open flame or candles are allowed inside the property at any time.
Noise: Guests shall be considerate of the neighborhood and refrain from visiting properties other than the designated area of Playful Pelican. Loud noises are prohibited. Please end outdoor activities by 11pm CT.
Access: For purposes of repair or inspection, Guest shall allow access to the property to the Homeowners or other service professionals. Homeowners shall exercise this right of access in a reasonable manner.
Pets (dogs): Guests with dogs staying at the property agree to pay a $150 Pet Fee. Upon signing the Acknowledgement, Guests with dogs staying at the property are also agreeing to the Pet Addendum. A maximum of two (2) dogs are permitted unless prior approval is given by the Homeowners. Guests are required to pick up after their pets before their departure, or there will be an additional $150 charge.
Video Surveillance: There are outdoor security cameras placed by the door and the parking area. The video footage is not shared and is recorded for liability and security reasons only. It does not infringe upon the guests’ privacy. Any attempt at disabling or obscuring the cameras is prohibited and may result in the guest being asked to leave without refund, and you will be charged an additional fee of $200. There are no indoor cameras.
Parking: Three cars can park under the house or on the driveway.
Cleaning Service/Inspector: There is no daily cleaning service. The Playful Pelican is serviced by a five star quality cleaning company that will clean, sanitize, and inspect our home before your arrival. There will be fresh linens, paper products, and starter size bathroom amenities available. If the premises are un-kept or damaged upon arrival, Guest shall inform Homeowners immediately. Please be attentive to excessive untidiness and treat the Playful Pelican as you would your own home. Follow the Arrival and Departure Procedures closely. If extra cleaning is required by our cleaning service, an additional fee will be assessed.
Water and Septic: The sewer system in the Gulf Shores (Fort Morgan) community is very delicate. The following are some items that should NOT be flushed in the toilets or put down the drains: Baby/cleaning wipes, chemicals, cleaning wipes, coffee grounds, condoms, cotton balls, disposable diapers, egg shells, feminine products, food of any kind, glass, grease, hair, Kleenex, latex items, makeup applicators, medications, metal, oil, paper towels, plastic, sand, shells, and trash. If it is found that the above mentioned products have clogged the septic system, you may be charged for the cost of the repairs.
Conditions Beyond Our Control: We are not liable for events beyond our control which interfere with your scheduled occupancy, including, but not limited to: acts of God, acts of governmental agencies, fire, strikes, war, tornado, and hurricanes, tropical or other storms, severe weather, inclement weather, ferry boat cancellation, loss of electricity, loss of water, pandemics, work or family conflicts or emergencies. There will be no refund in these circumstances. We recommend that you purchase travel insurance prior to arrival.
Insurance: You are expressly excluded from any insurance policy held by us. You understand that it is suggested that you carry renter's insurance to cover family emergencies and your personal belongings.
Liability: The Homeowners are not liable for any accidents, injuries or illness that occurs while on the premises or its facilities. The Homeowners are also not responsible for the loss of personal belongings or valuables of the Guest’s party. By accepting this reservation, it is agreed that Guest’s party are expressly assuming the risk of any harm arising from their use of the premises or others whom they invite to use the premise and hold the Homeowners harmless from liability for personal injury or property damage.
Criminal Activity: You agree to not engage in any criminal conduct on the property, including but not limited to the following: usage of illegal drugs, committing a felony, violating any law or ordinance, disturbing the peace, engaging in conduct for unlawful purposes. We are not liable for any damage or injury you cause to yourself or a third party while engaging in criminal activity.
Indemnification: We shall not be liable for any damage or injury suffered by Guest’s party, or other invitees, agents, employees or any other person entering the property during your rental term. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold the Homeowners harmless from any and all claims or assertions of every kind and nature
Falsified Reservations: If you provide false information concerning your identity or other aspects of the reservation, you will automatically forfeit the reservation and will not be granted access to the property. In addition, you will not be refunded any money paid in advance. We have the right to report the fraud to the appropriate authorities.
Severability: If any part of this Short-Term Rental Agreement is held to be invalid, such invalidity shall not affect the validity or enforceability of the rest of this Short-Term Rental Agreement.
Governing Law: This Short-Term Rental Agreement shall be governed, construed, and interpreted under the Laws of the State of Alabama.

ARRIVAL: WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU HAVE ARRIVED SAFELY AND HAVE GAINED ACCESS TO THE PLAYFUL PELICAN WITHOUT INCIDENT:

• Adjust the thermostat to your desired temperature which is located on the wall in the hallway.
• Relax and enjoy!


DEPARTURE: PLEASE SECURE THE PLAYFUL PELICAN BEFORE YOU LEAVE. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU DO ALL OF THE FOLLOWING:
• Adjust the thermostat to 78 degrees F if using air conditioning, and 62 degrees F if using heat.
• Turn OFF all lights (inside and outside) and turn OFF all overhead fans.
• Check that all windows are closed and securely locked and lower and close the blinds in every room.
• Empty the contents of the dishwasher and return dishes to their proper location.
• Clear refrigerator from all unmarked items and leave refrigerator in clean and in good condition.
• Please turn down (do not make) the beds that were utilized during your stay.
• If the beach towels were utilized, please launder (2 Tbls), dry, fold, and return to the hall bathroom closet. There will be a $30 fee for each beach towel that is missing.
• If extra blankets/sheets were utilized, please launder and return them to their proper locations.
• If the sleeper sofa was utilized, please launder all linens, and return them to their proper locations.
• Remove personal items from the washer and dryer and make sure the dials are set to OFF.
• Use the cleaning tools provided to clean up excessive sand, dirt, and dog fur, as excessive messes could result in extra charges. (see Damage Protection on Short-Term Rental Agreement)
• If you should utilize the Homeowner’s canvas dog crates, please clean thoroughly and make sure both dog crates and instructions are returned to the hook in the laundry closet.
• Pick up after your dog and make sure the yard is clear of all dog’s waste (see Pet Addendum) and any other objects that would hinder lawn maintenance.
• See trash pick-up schedule. At final departure, take out all the trash, including any perishable food items, and properly secure the trash container to the posts using the provided bungee cords.

• Stack the 4 Adirondack chairs. Fold the 2 green chairs and slide them under the small table. Winds can be problematic. You may be asked to bungee the wicker chairs/table during inclement weather.
• RETURN ALL 3 KEY RINGS TO THE KITCHEN HOOKS (SOUTH, EAST, & SHED).
• At your final departure, please do NOT lock the lower doorknobs.
• LOCK the deadbolts from the OUTSIDE by using the LOCK ICONS on the exterior KEYPADS.

PLEASE MAKE SURE BOTH DOORS AND THE SHED DOOR ARE ALL TIGHTLY CLOSED AND LOCKED PROPERLY.

It is hereby agreed by and between Guest (Guest’s, you, your) and Michael and Brenda Courtney (Homeowner, Homeowners) that by signing the Acknowledgement, Guests with dog(s) staying at the Playful Pelican rental property ID# 651908, understand and agree to abide by the Pet Addendum policy as indicated below:
Guest agrees to pay a Pet Fee in the amount of $150.00 per the stated rental term.
All dogs must comply with the following specifications:

• Well-behaved, housebroken, and able to relieve themselves outdoors only.
• Must be six (6) months of age or older.
• Spayed or neutered preferred.
• Must be up-to-date on all vaccinations including rabies.
• Heartworm preventive is highly recommended.
• Must be treated with a topical flea and tick repellent three (3) days prior to arrival.
Documentation of the above specifications from a licensed veterinarian must be provided if requested by the Homeowner.
IMPORTANT: Guest is responsible for daily pick-up and disposal of dog’s waste. Please make sure that the property is clean and free of all dog’s waste, or you will be charged an additional $150. Our cleaning service will inspect the property and is not responsible for picking up after your dog(s).
Any dog with a recorded history of biting is strictly prohibited.
Gulf Shores (Fort Morgan) has a leash law in effect.
Dogs are not allowed on furniture or beds at any time. Any evidence of dogs on furniture or beds will incur an extra cleaning fee and you will be charged accordingly.
Dog fur, along with excessive sand, dirt or other messes, including dog’s waste left in the yard, will also incur extra cleaning fees. Please use the cleaning tools provided to clean up after your dog.
Dogs must not cause damage to premises or furnishings inside or outside the home, including any scratching of doors, windows, sills, screens or blinds. If damage should occur, Guest must notify Homeowners immediately.
Guest should prevent dogs from making excessive noise at a level that could disturbs neighbors.
Guest will not leave dog(s) unattended indoors or outdoors, including the deck/porch, unless the dog(s) are properly secured in a crate.
Guests who utilize the canvas dog crates will make sure they are thoroughly cleaned and both crates are returned to the hook in the laundry closet. Also, please make sure the crate instructions are returned to the smaller hooks.
NOTE****
For your convenience, the Homeowners have provided two (2) canvas dog crates which are located in the laundry closet. The smaller canvas crate can be used for dogs that do not exceed 25 pounds, and the larger canvas crate can be used for dogs that do not exceed 50 pounds. Please use dog crates accordingly.

We purchased this home with the dream of someday retiring in Gulf Shores. The sea, the sand, and the sun are the perfect recipe for an Alabama Gulf Coast lifestyle. Lie on the beach, watch a stunning sunrise, or take a dip in the warm Gulf Waters…it’s up to you how you spend your time. Over the years, we have vacationed at many resort style beach communities, but have not found a beach and community as nice as Gulf Shores. VRBO purchased this house in 2014 Why VRBO chose Gulf Shores Located on the west end of Pleasure Island’s peninsula, Fort Morgan offers the same beautiful white sand beaches found within the city limits of Gulf Shores and Orange Beach but without the crowds. The absence of high-rise condos means you can enjoy the sunrises and sunsets from almost anywhere in the area. The beaches in Fort Morgan are pet friendly, and dog owners can bring along “man’s best friend” to enjoy the best nature has to offer as well! (Law requires pets be on a leash) The Marina in Fort Morgan offers charter fishing and dolphin cruises, and the Marina store has beach items and necessities to purchase that you may have forgotten to bring along. Several great restaurants offer fresh seafood, burgers, pizza, as well as Mexican fare. If you feel like heading into the city, Gulf Shores is just a 15-20 minute drive away. What makes this house unique For the early riser, the breath-taking sunrises can be enjoyed on the full front deck while sipping your morning coffee. If you prefer watching the sun come up over the Gulf waters, it’s only a 2-3 minute stroll to the beach. You just might catch the dolphins playing close to the shore. If you dream of getting away from the pressures of everyday life, the nature and serenity of Fort Morgan is just what the doctor ordered. Sitting on the front porch swing and watching the Gulf of Mexico and Mobile Bay at the same time is awesome.

Playful Pelican was the PERFECT choice for our FIRST-ever trip to Gulf Shores ALABAMA!! ;)

We looked at SOOO many rental options around Gulf Shores before deciding to bring along our 2 very sweet well-behaved canine kids. The Playful Pelican turned out to be the BEST choice for the 4 of us humans (husband & me, 2 youngest sons--ages 23 & 22) + 2 doggies who'd much rather be chillin' with their family & chasing away birds @the beach than stuck at an unfamiliar kennel without us for a whole week. The house was just as described online, very clean, well-organized (w/helpful reminders typed up), nicely updated with gorgeous new grey flooring, coastal colors & decor, & a l-o-n-g granite counter-top with 4 barstools! We also LOVED the very airy & open livingroom-kitchen-dining table area which opened up to the huge wrap-around covered porch w/another dining area & numerous chairs for soaking up sunshine and fresh air! From the porch, we could see the Gulf about 7 houses down the street to our right, and Mobile Bay in the opposite direction. The beds were all SO comfy, and we all slept very well each night! The Master Bath had a cool sliding barn door, showers felt great, had 2 small hooks for our towels (a few larger wall hooks for our clothing would have been ideal), but there was a corner shelving unit with towels & a blowdryer, & we were able to keep various items handy in the baskets provided(& a couple clothing items tossed on top--haha). Our sons had no complaints with their bathroom(maybe some clothing hooks on back of door would have been helpful), and they did well sharing a bedroom the whole week, which they haven't done in many years!ha! We actually brought/purchased anything we happened to need, but the second bathroom closet did have a First-Aid kit, various lotions, sunscreen, etc, as well as beach towels (didn't need) and bathroom towels (needed :) A nice washer & dryer def came in handy!The kitchen is very well stocked with pretty much anything/everything you could possibly need-pots/pans/utensils/measuring cups/cookie sheets/cups/plates/bowls/silverware ETC, and a sweet little dishwasher too! Full-size refrig/freezer came in handy, as well as the Keurig coffee maker!(also had auto-brew coffee maker)Underneath the house was a nice water spicket/shower for washing off excess sand from feet/paws! Really helped! The beautiful beach was a 3min walk and very peaceful, family & dog friendly:)Owners Mike & Brenda VERY welcoming, responsive, helpful, & simply wonderful! Caring, personable & great people! We can't wait to go back!!!

wonderful getaway

My husband and I and our small poodle @the_trixie_diaries spent about 5 days at the Playful Pelican and we can't say enough good things about our stay. First of all, my husband was working much of the time on a time-critical project for his job, and the property's 5G internet was very important to him. Secondly, we were grateful for such a nice house that would accept our poodle as a guest, because we love to travel with her and it can be hard to find good places that will allow it. Thirdly, the beach access was great, and the beaches beautiful and very uncrowded (we visited in February). Being able to walk our dog on the beach was such fun! And the sunrises and sunsets spectacular. We wanted privacy and quiet. So the Ft. Morgan area was the perfect choice. If you want the hustle and bustle of town, you can drive in, but we loved being away from it all. About the house, the decor is so thoughtul and cute, you can tell someone with a good eye is behind the interior design. Lots of bright light in the living areas, an incredibly spacious kitchen considering the size of the house, a corner workspace for hubby's computer, and covered deck for eating or sitting with a view of the gulf and bay were highlights for us. We appreciated all the thoughtful little touches in this house. It seems like someone's special hideaway, not just an impersonal rental. Even under the house, instead of a slab of concrete like many other beach houses, there are little sitting areas, cute and colorful decorations, just a party atmostphere everywhere you look. Also, communication with owners was excellent, they were available by phone or text for any question, so that was a bonus. We would definitely come here again. We are grateful to owners of such a sweet property who are willing to share it with others. Thank you!

Perfect Escape!

We loved the Playful Pelican and Fort Morgan! This is a great property and there was plenty of room for the four of us plus our dogs. We loved the natural light that flowed in. We spent hours on the deck which had a view of the ocean. The kitchen (and entire house) was very clean and was fully equipped with everything that we needed. Beds were comfortable.

We enjoyed the short walk to the beach and appreciated the wagons, beach umbrellas and towels that were supplied. It became a nightly ritual to walk the short distance to watch the sun set over the ocean. We also saw dolphins, the Blue Angels, lots of birds and sparse crowds.

The owners were very easy to deal with and answered all questions quickly. We would definitely stay here again.
