Description
Surprise Landing Cottage is in the quiet, secluded area known as Battles Wharf. Our fully equipped and furnished Cottage is located on the Mobile Bay side of the scenic coastal highway, and is framed by centuries old Live Oaks with access to our private pier. The Cottage is just minutes south of Fairhope and the Fairhope Municipal Pier and one mile north of Marriott's Grand Hotel.
No direct Bay view from the Cottage, but guests are welcome to walk out front to access and use our private pier for water-related activities like fishing, swimming, sunsets, picnics, hammock naps, and the like. The pier has a covered pavilion, a galley with water and electricity, and a lower level deck for ease of Bay access. We keep light tackle and frozen bait on the wharf for guests’ use.
There is a walking, biking trail that parallels the coastal highway. So Fairhope's charming shops are a quick drive or bike-ride away
Our area is known for its many seafood restaurants. Tanger's Outlet Center in Foley is a short 30 minute drive for great bargains and The Eastern Shore Center in Spanish Fort offers a great variety of shopping and dining opportunities.
We are a short drive to historic Mobile, the Battleship Alabama and the beaches of the Alabama Gulf coast.
Grocery stores, pharmacies, and retail necessity shopping are a ten minute drive.
The area is a bit of a golfing Mecca with the Robert Trent Jones Lakewood Club and several other courses nearby. Our weather makes golf pretty much a year-round activity.
Fairhope's Arts and Crafts Festival takes place every spring and there are always local artists working in Fairhope. Mobile's Mardi Gras and Fairhope's own Mardi Gras celebrations attract many visitors who like our low-keyed style of celebrating. Bird watching at Dauphin Island and Gulf Shores peaks with spring and fall migrations and Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is a unique opportunity to learn about the flora and fauna of Coastal Alabama.
Whether you are looking for golfing, art, walking, biking, tennis, boating, fishing, crabbing, shopping, bird watching, discovering coastal South Alabama or just plain relaxing, all are available for you to enjoy year round at Surprise Landing Cottage.

The stove is four-burner gas with oven.
The refrigerator is equipped with an ice maker.
The queen-size bed in the bedroom is for two adults. The convertible sofa in the living area is suitable for one additional adult or possibly two additional smaller children. A crib can be provided for a small baby.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION ABOUT RENTAL RATES:
Our minimum stay is two nights at $175 per night or $350. Add a third night for half or $88, making the rental rate for a three-night stay, $438.
Reduced average daily rates when our guests stay longer. For example, five days is $606 one week $775, two weeks, $1,370, four weeks $2,445, and a 30-day month $2,545.
PLEASE NOTE THAT OUR RENTAL AGREEMENT COVERS CONDITIONS FOR RENTING, OUR CANCELLATION POLICY, OUR HURICANE OR OTHER STORM POLICY, RULES OF THE HOUSE, AND OTHER GENERAL PROVISIONS. PRIOR TO BOOKING, WE WILL RESPOND DIRECTLY BY TELEPHONE TO ALL INQUIRIES AND TRANSMIT OUR AGREEMENT AND RENTAL CONFIRMATION FOR A RENTER'S REVIEW AND ACCEPTANCE. WE DO NOT PARTICIPATE IN ON LINE BOOKING.
FEES, TAXES, DEPOSIT AND FORM OF PAYMENT:
CLEANING FEE: Minimum fee is $50 following up to a week’s stay. For extended stays, cleaning is weekly. Cleaning for up to two weeks is $75, for up to three weeks is $100 and for a month is $125.
LODGING TAX: Plus seven percent Lodging Tax.
DEPOSIT: A fully refundable $200 deposit is required when booking.
PAYMENT: We accept either cash or check.

Policies
The person renting our Cottage must be at least 25 years old and be one of the people who will be in the Cottage for the entire duration of the rental.
NO WEDDINGS, PARTIES, OR LARGE SOCIAL GATHERINGS. Please note that in our quiet residential area, the property is not zoned, equipped, or insured to accommodate weddings or events like a reception or after rehearsal party or other such gatherings.
Towels are provided, but may not be taken from Cottages. Guests must supply their own beach towels.
Strictly no smoking in the Cottage.
Our no pets policy is firm. We never have and never will make an exception for pets or other animals. Our pledge to guests with pet sensitivity is that you can count on this.

Absolutely Wonderful
I had a great stay, very nice place to stay, fishing was great! The host are very friendly and the welcome I got was indeed pleasant. Love that the property had a couple orange trees. Highly recommend this getaway to anyone, looking for peace and quiet, great scenery, and good time fishing from the best pier. Thanks Again! to Mr. and Mrs. Moore, I truly enjoyed my stay.

A Little Slice of Heaven
Frank and Deborah have done a fabulous job of providing an amazing home away from home in this cottage beauty. The landscaping is so pretty and the amenities a plenty. You can enjoy your coffee on the dock, or have a wharf side dinner without spending money at a restaurant! The hospitality was very warm and generous. The fish weren't biting, but we had a great time fishing nonetheless.

We truly enjoyed staying at this adorable cottage in the town of Fairhope. It is located in a beautiful area.The cottage is absolutely "fully equipped," anything we needed was there. Since our virtual shutdown during Covid has now subsided, we are delighted to be welcoming back some old friends and now some great new ones as well.
Relaxing and perfect
We thoroughly enjoyed our first trip to fairhope.
The cottage was perfect in every way. The wharf also was relaxing and fun . Frank was very informative and provided a enjoyable time there. He and his wife were very kind and enjoyed a few moments talking to them. We highly recommend and we can’t wait to go back.

Peaceful and Private Location
Just the right size for the two of us, with plenty of privacy to relax. We had a fully equipped, clean kitchen so that we did not have to eat out every meal, as well as being close to many great shops and restaurants in Fairhope. We were able to enjoy an awesome pier for fishing.....and the views from the pier were simply gorgeous. And the plus for us is that we actually caught some speckled trout from that pier!! Such fun!
The couple who rent the cottage live right on the grounds and were friendly and helpful in meeting any need or question we had. The cottage was cute, comfortable, fully equipped, and immaculate....a hidden gem!

Nice Get Away
If you are looking for a place off the beaten path, this is it. We have stay in Orange Beach and Gulf Shores many times and it's the same old scene. Beach, beach and beach. High rise condos and commercial enterprises.
Surprise Cottage is off the beaten path, yet minutes from downtown Fairhope. Fairhope has a lot diversions. Restaurants and shopping, that should satisfy anyone's taste. Golf if you want it. Daphne, Robertsdale and Foley are short drives away. Plenty to do in those towns. Mobile is about 35 minutes to the west and has ample opportunities to keep you busy.
We enjoyed the cottage. It was a great place as the headquarters for our trips. The cottage is comfortable and the owners are very helpful.
I give 5 stars.

Peaceful stay at beautiful cottage
The cottage was beautiful and immaculately clean. The pier was very nice to enjoy sunset/sunrise or just relaxing while listening to the waves lapping against the wooden piers. We enjoyed biking, kayaking and walking on our stay as well as the delicious food at numerous local restaurants. We were able to explore Fairhope's quaint downtown shops and restaurants. Lovely area that we are looking forward to visiting again someday.

Beautiful and peaceful location with gracious host
A friend and I stayed here over a long weekend to do some fishing and to just get away. The host, Frank, was overly generous with his time and amenities. He gave us a brief tour of the area and alerted us to some fishing spots as soon as we arrived. He went above and beyond to help us during our stay. The pier is absolutely amazing and we did enjoy our time out there. The cottage was nicer than other comparable rentals in the price range and had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend staying here if you are visiting Fairhope or Mobile Bay.
